I have made my peace by utah_heretic

I've made my peace... ...no, not like that.

I've decided that the idea of taking Checkett's statements, the county's decisions, hare-brained development schemes, threats to move the team, etc. personally just ruins the experience for me.

Conservatively, whether RSL stays or goes, builds a stadium or not, plays poorly or not, is ultimately not a short range issue. Even if they pass Checkett's "deadline, the chances that they will move prior to the end of the 2008 season are frankly slim. This team, for good or bad, is OURS for the next 2 years. 2 years is far too long of a time frame for me to get worked up about right now.

I think Ellinger's performance is wanting, but it seems unlikely Checketts will replace him without knowing the long-term future of the team in this valley. No point paying to violate somebody's contract if you might just sell the team anyway.

I don't see us with a good seasonal solution to our midfield, but this seems likely to remain unchanged as well for roughly the same reasons. But even if Dave ponied up to solve the problem, it seems unlikely that it really "solves" our problems this year. The team is good enough to play and win. They are decidedly unpredictable, but there are a lot of good things to watch.

None of these circumstances truly effect the status of the team this year, and my resolution is to not let any of it get to me. It's time to focus back onto the players and what's going on on the pitch. It's time for RCB to rise up and stand behind our lads. Who knows, it might just help them play a couple of good games before the season is up. From my new perspective, we need just 1 more win and it's all gravy from there...we're not going to make the playoffs unless something ridiculous happens, so it's all about the individual games from here.

With this in mind, who's coming to Wed. night's game against Morelia? Cheap tickets are a wonderful thing.

The Brigade’s Monumental Expedition:
An afternoon with greatness.

You wanted it, you will get it: the “play by play” of the press conference between Real Salt Lake and Real Madrid.

UteAnimal and I arrive at Rice Eccles Stadium at 12:00 in time for lunch. What is amazing is how quickly our front office put together a logo for this August 12 friendly.

The logo reads “Showdown Real” with both the logos on either side as well as the date and the stadium. It looks fantastic. The front office mentioned that having Real Madrid on a logo with another club is rare and it’s truly amazing that we share the logo for the friendly.

Lunch was served as the President, Animal and I enjoy the discussion (discussing our club in the middle of an unbeaten streak is a lot of fun).

The front office was there and representatives from Real Madrid included: Emilio Butragueño, Vice-President, Miguel Anandez, International Development Director and Ivan Bravo Martin, International Development Manager.

Uncle Dave discussed his vision when first contemplating buying a MLS team for Salt Lake. This game has been in the works for two years.

Emilio Butragueño then addressed the group. He said he was grateful for Real Madrid to have this opportunity to come play in Salt Lake. The quote that really hit home to me as a fan of RSL is when Butragueño mentioned that, “Salt Lake will be a power in soccer in five years.”

He mentioned all their stars will be coming to Salt Lake and that they want to win. He hopes they live up to expectations.

Emilio, being able to see these stars live and being able to yell at them is fulfilling expectations.

Gifts were given. Crystal bowls with RSL and Real Madrid’s logo were given to the representatives from Real Madrid along with RSL match jersey’s with their names.

Mr. Butragueño gave Uncle Dave a Real Madrid jersey with Salt Lake City on the back.

Some side commentary, President Young of the University of Utah mentioned that Dave kept him on a limb through this process because when Dave mentioned he was going to play at the home of the Utes, President Young wasn’t sure if he was talking about Rice Eccles or Lavel Edwards Stadium.

Jason Kreis guaranteed a win for….Real. Just Real.

After the presentation it was time to break up for interviews. Heretic, Animal and I gave Emilio a scarf from the RCB and spoke with him in Spanish. Being a new fan of soccer, I did not truly grasp the awesome opportunity it was to meet “one of the finest strikers in the history of Spanish Soccer.” Heretic and Animal informed me the momentous opportunity I had.

The Cavalier Chronicle
6-6-06

Upcoming Events:

There is going to be a press conference tomorrow where Uncle Dave will announce that Real Madrid will be playing our lads at Rice Eccles Stadium on August 12. More information will be posted. To get tickets you either have to be a season ticket holder or contact a season ticket holder.

The chronicle would advice purchasing the remainder of the season tickets at a prorated rate. There are many benefits for doing so.

  1. You have a seat with the RCB free of any stadium “security” ticket checkers.
  2. You have tickets to the Real Madrid match as part of the package.
  3. You help the RCB gain strength and momentum looking forward to 2007.

To purchase tickets in E38, call David Hunter @ 801-924-8562.

Right now we have 12 solid season ticket holders and many who pay the season ticket price on a weekly installment. We want to increase that to 30 by next year so remember to start saving now. (check here to remember how much to save weekly: http://www.cavaliersbrigade.com/brigade/viewtopic.php?t=2190 )

The Coach’s Corner: This week, because of the Friday's match time, the Coach’s Corner will be held Wednesday Night at 6:30 pm. Guests will be Uncle Dave and Jeff “you can’t stop me you can only hope to contain me” Cunningham. Also, other guests will include Emilio Butragueno and Ivan Bravo from Real Madrid. (You heard that right). So make sure and be there

And Mapuche, if superstition is correct, you have to be there to partake of your grasshopper milkshake. Since grasshopper has had the shake, the team is 3-0-1.

Battle Real: Real Madrid coming to Rice Eccles

Lady and Gentlemen of the Brigade

(I know there is more than one female but I enjoy the introduction that way)

Real Madrid is coming to Utah, no big surprise there. According to this article: http://www.sltrib.com/ci_3905940 they are playing at Rice Eccles.

As you are aware, those with season tickets already have their Real Madrid tickets in hand. I’m assuming we’ll all be in E38 together in our seats. That’s fantastic. For those who have not purchased season tickets, maybe this is what pushes you over the hump.

Get your tickets so you can not only enjoy the remaining Real Salt Lake home matches with the craziest supporter’s group in the land, but you’ll also be able to sing together, in 4-part harmony, “Does Posh Like it up the Arse!”

Contact our message board for details on how to get season tickets.

RSL Rogue v. 2.0

Welcome to the somewhat revamped version of the RSL Rogue blog. hooligan was nice enough to let me add any content as I see fit, but mostly he wanted me to revamp his blog and give it his own personal flair (that is hooligan licking the “r” in “Cavalier.”)

hooligan (aka Praetorian) will continue to post his ingenious match thoughts and observations and others of us will add other information, from practice reports to random MLS facts.
